Opening of the "Portraits of Shoes" exhibition at the Espace Chamberlan

On 20 November 2019, to mark the opening of the Chamberlan house, the Quatre Couleurs Association brought together seven painters around the theme of shoes in order to transcend the heart of the house's product. The painters each created several works using shoes from the Chamberlan collection as models. All the painters are from the portrait school and tried their hand at "Shoe Portraits" for the first time.

The Chamberlan house goes beyond the presentation of its shoe creations. This place also wishes to offer a living space open to the craftsmen of the made in France and to the artists who will regularly come to animate this space to present their works in the form of pop up store and ephemeral exhibitions.

Congratulations to Sophie ENGSTER and Franck LE FRANC who have made Chamberlan the artisanal company of the future.

It was only natural that the Chamberlan house called on the Quatre Couleurs association to organise its first vernissage.

7 talented painters have thus lent themselves to the game to offer us their vision of the House with the aim of creating not portraits of faces but "portraits of shoes".

The painters had all participated in the exhibition "14 regards en liberté" in 2016 on the occasion of the Women's Day after the attacks of 2015. Most of these painters come from the École d'Estampes, the worthy heir of the French impressionist school. The transversality between art and craft is the essential bridge to enhance the work of craftsmen.

Charlotte Barrault : "For this Chamberlan exhibition, I tried to stage each shoe to restore its elegance, its charm, its personality, like a living subject!

Carole Benichou : "I love the energy that drives me to create! Sharing my work through the "Portrait of Shoes" exhibition allows me to combine my passions of art and fashion."

Sylvie Delusseau : "A shoe is an expression of confidence that allows you to overcome all obstacles and conquer the world.

Cécile Guth : "In this joint exhibition "Portraits of shoes", I had fun translating the personality that each of the chosen shoes inspired in me: one, placed on a chest of drawers next to the earrings and necklace of the beautiful woman who came back late from a party; the other, resting on fabrics like a precious object... All these women's shoes make me dream and are suitable for taking away the artist's imagination.

Corine Lucas : "I was immediately attracted by this group exhibition. The idea of making a shoe portrait is original! I love Sophie and Frank's commitment to this company made in France!

Carole Melmoux : "Portraits of Shoes... Elegance and delicacy... Simplicity and perfection of lines, of refined details. I was inspired by these timeless and multiple shapes, colours and intertwined materials.

Sophie Simonet : "This new exhibition Portrait de chaussure with the Chamberlan designers is very motivating. Indeed, beyond the pleasure of finding "the group of 14 women" and the Association 4 couleurs, it is the opportunity to create a real dialogue between a craft creation and a work of art with, moreover, involved and innovative designers. In addition to this, the model of the stiletto shoe inspires me as much with freedom and femininity as with fragility and weakness... ".

On the occasion of the inauguration of the space of the Chamberlan house and in order to transcend the heart of the artisanal trade of the bespoke shoemaker, the Quatre Couleurs association wished to surround the Chamberlan house with painters, all women, in order not to make portraits of faces but portraits of shoes!

The painters had all taken part in the exhibition "14 looks in freedom" in 2016 on the occasion of the day of the woman after the attacks of 2015. These painters are for the majority resulting from the school of Prints, worthy heiress of the French impressionist school. The transversality between art and craftsmanship is the essential bridge to enhance the work of craftsmen.
