Gwendoline Finaz de Villaine is a writer, singer-songwriter and painter. She is a former student of the Maîtrise Radio France, Sciences-Po Paris and HEC, and has worked with Michel Fugain, Roger Louret, Elie Chouraqui and Jean-Claude Camus. She has sung at the Folies Bergère, the Zenith, for M6, France Télévisions and in several musicals in Paris. At the same time, author of the "Brumes de Grandville" trilogy, she has released a fourth novel in January 2019, with French Pulp Éditions, "De Poudre, de Cendre et d'Or".
Her painting is music on paper, influenced by her stage experience, cubism, surrealism and African art. Passionate about the 1920s, she likes to make her "open-air unconscious" converse with Chinese ink totems and dancing carafes; we find the influence of Picasso and the Dan, Grebo and Kwélé masks of Africa which are dear to her.
"I never know where a painting will take me and I am always amazed at the final result, which appears before my eyes like a premonition, a message from beyond.
"In my life, I have always been in search of freedom, and the most absolute freedom is painting.
